You are invited to attend a special exhibition at Framfield Grange for one day only on
Saturday 10th July 2021.

Explore an art trail through Kathy’s enchanting home in rural East Sussex and discover more than
250 of Athena Jane Churchill’s tiny, beautifully detailed bird sculptures nestling in the rooms.
This sparkling jewel of an event marks the very first sharing of Athena Jane’s art made over the last year.
​
The exhibition, inspired by traces of myth and memory in heritage objects, ancient sites, and Museum collections. launches her next major project, “Shrines and Sacred Spaces”- an 18-month pilgrimage, exhibiting at five venues across the country, before culminating in Gloucester in 2023.
​
A limited edition of 20 jewelled birds are ready to fly off to new homes and will be on sale for the first time. 10% of sales will be donated to Friends of Sussex Hospices.
​
This experience at Framfield Grange comes at a unique moment in time. The birds bring their message, a Celebration of Freedom, as we are free to gather together again after a year of restriction across the world.

Creative Workshops
at Framfield Grange

12th/13th/14th July 2021
Free yourself to create with a whole day of inspiration, well-being and relaxation in the beautiful surroundings of Framfield Grange.
Artist Athena Jane is running three days of workshops whilst her pop-up installation “Free as a Bird” is on show through the house.
​
Each creative day will be a different practical art workshop exploring some of her inspirations; set design, ancient shrines, natural history, and heritage collections. Each workshop will be a fun journey through explorations of materials and techniques to make and take home a piece of your own art.
​
Monday July 12th Workshop One 10.30am-3pm
Inspired by set design and Nature - create a Bird or Butterfly Box Shrine. Experiment with surface decoration, collage, using diverse materials and inks to create interesting surface textures. Journey through different materials and ideas to make a Natural History inspired Bird Shrine/Imaginary World 3D Box.

Tuesday 13th July Workshop Two 10.30am-3pm
Mosaics and Surface Decoration - inspired by birds in the installation you will see how mosaic techniques have led to their decoration. Experiment with mosaics, milliput, decoupage, and craqueleure glazes to create a bird and mosaic inspired hanging decoration.

Wednesday 14th July Workshop Three 10.30am-3pm
Inspired by 3D birds - looking at how Athena Jane has created her jewelled birds, you will have the chance to try out a variety of ways of making 3D bird Models; wire and foil sculpting, milliput and wire, super sculpey, plaster bandage, and you will take home a beautifully decorated little 3D bird of your own.
Jane is an experienced artist and workshop leader who has spent over 20 years helping people to access their creativity. She creates a confidence building environment, sharing techniques and ways of working to free your inner artist. Step by step tuition, taking you gently on a fun journey into your own way of creating, is provided.

Cost is £75 a day. This includes all art materials, refreshments and a light lunch at the Grange.
This course is for adults of any level and beginners are very welcome.
You can book one, two, or all three workshops. Places are limited to 10 people per day.
